Week 1: Ball So Hard

Bryn Mawr, MN - Following team introductions, the National Anthem, and the F-14 flyer over, Ball so Hard was acquainted with their first kickball match up of the 2013 season on Thursday evening vs. the defending Wednesday evening Champion Bunt Pirates. After a hard fought rock, paper scissors battle between team captains, Ball so Hard acquired home field advantage and took the field with confidence. The Bunt Pirates took an early 10-0 lead in the top of the first fueled by many bunting pirates and booming kicking of balls over the shallow Ball so Hard outfield. The match up remained a stalemate at that tally until the  3rd inning when the Pirates tacked on another to push the lead to 11-0. The 5th inning proved to be magical for Ball so Hard when El Captain, Phil led off with a single, slid into 2nd on a Cory single, and scored on an Abby single for the first score of the 2013 season. Johnson and Abby crossed the plate on a Brad kick to outfieldish. Lauren advanced Thomas to 2nd on a sacrifice grounder to first. Adam pushed Thomas to 3rd on a double to somewhere according to the scorebook. Ali brought in both ducks on the pond with a strong kick to left center to push the inning total to five. Jason, late season free agent signing, kicked a high pop out to end the run. The Pirates tacked on another in the 6th to complete their first step in repeating as champions with a final score of 12-5.

Ball so Hard awards of the week go to Cory and Phil with a 1.000 kicking percentage on the season, Ali as the team RKI (Runs Kicked In) leader, Erin for his diving catch to end a Pirate run, and Laurenfor spectacular flippy cup skills. The Ball NOT so Hard award goes to Adam for earning the first foul out (four foul balls) and for struggling during the first flippy cup match up of the year.

Ball so Hard will take on the Where My Pitches At at 7:30 p.m. next Thursday, May 9 at Bryn Mawr soccer fields in game two of the young season. Theme for next week is Derby Night - Wear your floppy hats and seersucker and celebrate everything high stakes and horse races! Best costume prizes will be awarded at the bar.
