I hope everyone is enjoying the season so far! We’ve got a busy schedule of events in front of us… with kickball, parties, playoffs, charity events and more! As this season’s president I wanted to share some information about an upcoming event everyone is welcome to participate in.
As some of you know, a friend of mine was diagnosed with an exceptionally rare tumor called a Desmoid Tumor in December 2009. He is currently at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN and will undergo major surgery in a few weeks. His sister has played in our Minneapolis WAKA league for the last 5 years and I am asking for your support if you are interested with participating in the Desmoid Dash 5k Run/Walk!
All you need to do is run! Sign up to participate in Running for Research: The Desmoid Dash 5k Run/Walk Fundraiser, on Saturday, October 12th at St. Thomas Academy in Mendota Heights, MN. Our goal is to raise $25,000 for the Desmoid Tumor Research Foundation (DTRF). Online registration is only $25 (www.runtheday.com/registration/race_info/20482) or, for those procrastinations in the league, race-day registration is also available for $35.
DTRF is the only organization in the nation dedicated to researching a cure for this disease. Due to the rare nature of the disease, no government funding is available to research a cure for Desmoids. This is why it is essential to understand that 92% of every dollar raised by DTRF goes directly to researching a cure for this unpredictable disease.
