Week 7: Ball So Hard

TEN INNINGS, BALL SO HARD DON’T CARE

Bryn Mawr, MN - The late game showdown on ’Merica Day at the kickball yard featured Booze on First vs. the red hot Ball so Hard squad. Following a quick victory in rock paper scissors to start the night off, Ball so Hard took the field as the home team. ‘E’ Ehnerd took the mound in his first start of the short season, and turned in a spectacular performance. Both teams remained scoreless through four quick innings, featuring just one kick for a kick by Halaina in the bottom of the third. Ball so Hard broke the tie in the bottom of the fifth with three straight singles by Ehnerd, Stark, and Milk-in and a sac fly by Abby. This is the only ‘point’ they would score in the big inning. ‘E’ continued to pitch the shut out through nine innings back by some solid D by Cory J., Adam, Jason, Carlos, Abby, Cait A., and Halaina. Booze on First finally pushed someone to first in the top of the tenth and ended up pushing two runs across to take their first lead of the contest at 2-1. Ball so Hard stepped up in the bottom half of the inning down by one with a grin. A lead off single by Abby, followed by singles from Ali, and Haliana loaded the bases with Ball so Harders. A strong attempt at a sac fly by co-captain, Cait A. led to a play at the plate, which turn out not in Ball so Hards favor posted the first out of the inning. A quick kick by Lauren H. led to the second out of the inning, stranding three on the bags with two outs and the team down by two ‘points’. Adam G. stepped up with nothing but U.S.A. on the mind and kicked a sharp liner to shortstop which led to an attempted throw to third that went array and pushed across the two runs needed for Ball so Hard’s first walk off win of the 2013 season.

Ball so Hard awards of the week go to Erin for the ten inning pitching performance and one run scored, Kanuit for a pair of singles and a run scored, Halaina for going three for three and a run scored, Carlos for a pair of singles and strong defensive effort, and Adam for a pair of singles including the game winner in the bottom of the tenth.

Ball so Hard will take on Kick This @ 6:30 p.m. on Field One in the final regular season match of the year on Thursday, June 20.

Theme song of the week reverts back to the Ball so Hard theme song:

Week 6: Kick This

It was a night of deep balls action.  The tension, fierce.  The grass, mostly mowed.  The ball was small but most of all if you guess by the temperature, you'd think it was Fall.  Yes, I'm a lyrical poet and I totally know it.

Kick This took to the field to oppose, Where My Pitches At? We took the field and soon, the ball kicking began.  During the game, Matt "Never Patchy" kicked a triple, scoring 2.  Nick "How do I spell my last name again?" also kicked a tripe and scored 1.  Drew also busted out a triple, and the score was up to 4 to 1, all Kick This.

We also had solid defense.  Amenah "Shortstoppin" caught one to end an inning!  Drew "I'm at Second, wee!" played second in the last inning, ran to catch a ball, sliding mind you, and totally caught it despite the ref saying he didn't.  In the last inning, with the bases loaded and no outs, Where My Pitches At? kicked the ball to Gieger and with his cat like reflexes picked up the ball and tossed to home for all three game ending outs.  The final remained 4-1 and we marched toward more victory!

In flip cup, the opposing team didn't show, but we made a game happen anyway and won 3-1.  Until next week!

Week 6: Ball So Hard

BALL SO HARD KICKS ONE AWAY, FLIPS ONE IN

Bryn Mawr, MN - Short staffed, Ball so Hard took the muddy field with enthusiasm on Neon Night. Starting off with two scores in the top of the first vs. Pitches be Crazy with the Laurens Squared combo both crossing the dish. The score remained scoreless until the  third when Ball so Hard pushed across another to push the lead to 3-0. The pitches scored one of their own in the bottom with some aggressive base running in the bottom half to put the score at 3-1. The score remained at this position behind a strong pitching performance from Roger G. and tough defense by Cory, Abby, Roger, Erin, Lauren, Ali, Cait A. Emily, Carlos, Jason, Lauren, Phil, Annie, and Halaina. The pitches pushed one across in the bottom half of the seventh to put the score at 3-2. With time remaining, Ball so Hard elected to proceed to the 8th inning for the love of the game. This proved to be just what the pitches needed, scoring two in the bottom of the inning to take the game in walk off fashion 3-4. Top performers of the evening were Lauren H. with a pair of singles and a run scored, Jason with a single, double and a run scored and Carlos who tacked on two singles and an RBI. Top dressed went to Abby as she pulled up the skirt to haul in the award.

Following the devasisting defeat, Ball so Hard turned their focus to flippy cup. And the focus they had. Slapping the pitches with a 4-3 defeat in a split second victory in game seven of the match. Top flipper went to co-captain, Cait A, with five straight one flip successes to carry the team to victory.

Ball so Hard will take on Booze on First? In week seven, the second to last week of the season on field 4 @ 7:30 p.m.

Week 6: Pitches Be Crazy

We had an exciting comeback win this week in the bottom of the last inning. What better way to celebrate than to shotgun some beers?!?

Week 6: Hold My Beer and Watch This

Another week, another victory! Hold My Beer and Watch This is on a roll!

Let’s just say this... Some things happened, some plays were made (some plays not made), some beers were drank, but we all really only remember one thing. A former HMBAWT-er came to celebrate Kicklord Johnson’s birthday, and ended up with cleats on his feet and a beer in his hand.

Drew "Gingerlord" took his place behind home base, with only one thing on his mind… The flabongo.

Despite some questionable pitches (ah hem AJ!), Drew kicked the ball well over the Clingers’ heads, and it went bouncing into the swamp known as Bryn Mawr. As he ran the bases he quickly caught up to Morgan, who was rounding the bases, let’s say, not as quickly. Despite her neon pants, squeals, and probably prayers, Drew caught up to her as he was flying down the third base line. Drew offered a helping hand (or helping stiff arm) to push her forward, and Morgan couldn’t keep up the blistering pace, and both of them ended up in a heap three feet from home base. Unfortunately, during all this, the ball made its way back into the infield and Morgan (still on the ground ... heoh!) was hit with the ball and was out. Thankfully, Drew managed to get up, hurdle her, and make it home! The team had the spoils of war ready, and the flabongo of beer just ready to be consumed. But wait! The real kicker (get it?) of the whole event? It was called a foul. Whaat? I don’t know about the rest of the team, but I, for one, was thankful for the delayed call. Let’s be honest, people falling down is hilarious pretty much every time.

At the bar we continued the general awesomeness and surprised Kicklord Johnson with a birthday cake (from Costco, obviously the best kind of cake there is) and of course, the birthday song. And despite the Stage Five Clingers captain’s continual threats for a smackdown at flip cup, no captain and no smack down occurred. Victorious again! Woo HMBAWT!

Editors Note: I have officially added the world ‘flabongo’ to my Word dictionary. I think my work here is done.

Week 6: Booze on First?

Booze on First is officially on a two game losing streak thanks to the dirty Bunt Pirates.  Here is a quick recap of the game:

Our entire team did the walk shame away from field # 5 after being used and abused last Thursday evening…They bunted hard and they often.  Their bunts kept coming and coming until they won.  We put up a fight at first but it was inevitable that their bunting stamina was much more superior to our bunting defense.  We have never been bunted so hard in our team’s existence.

At Whisky Park the assault continued as their JORTS and flip cup skills handed our team a 3-1 loss.  We remain DEFEATED on the season in flip cup.

Editor Note...My bad, missed the pictures until now!
